Palestine 36: A Historical Drama of Uprising Premieres at Toronto Film Festival

At a press conference, the Toronto International Film Festival announced the selection of "Palestine36,"directed by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, as part of the official selection for its 50th edition, taking place from September 4 to 14this year. Metafora Production was among the earliest co-producers of the film, which is ahistorical drama that explores one of the most sensitive periods in modern Palestinian history.
Set during the British Mandate in Palestine, the film follows a wave of uprisings sweeping through Palestinian villages in resistance to colonial rule. Yusuf, the protagonist, moves between his rural village and the politically charged atmosphere of Jerusalem, dreaming of a future beyond the growing unrest. But history is unforgiving. As the number of Jewish immigrants fleeing Europe increases, and the Palestinian population unites in the largest and longest uprising against British rule, all sides are drawn into an inevitable collision a defining moment for the British Empire and the future of the entire region.
The film stars Jeremy Irons, Saleh Bakri, Liam Cunningham, Yasmine Al Massri, Billy Howle, Hiam Abbass, Robert Aramayo, Karim Daoud, Dhafer Abidine, and Kamel El Basha.
